Beat, John H., 87 of Wichita, passed away peacefully on January 8 at his home in Wichita. Visitation 5:00 pm till rosary at 7:00 pm Monday, Jan. 12 at Resthaven Mortuary and Mass 10:00 am Tuesday, Jan. 13 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. John was born in Murdock, KS on May 3, 1927, the son of William and Gertrude (Struble) Beat. John joined the Army in June 1951 and served with the 17th Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean Conflict from February 1952 to March 1953. On June 8, 1954, John married Mary Louise Haukap and raised six children. John retired from Kansas Propane in 1991. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4118, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 4, and KS Korean War Veterans Association. He also belonged to the National Horseshoe Pitching Association and Sunflower Horseshoe Club of Wichita. John volunteered at the Dole VA Medical Center for 9 years, as well as the Lord's Diner for several years. John is survived by his wife Mary Louise of 60 years, sisters, Agnes Clasen of Hutchinson, Luella Vaughan of Oklahoma, daughters, Frieda Beat of Manhattan, Brenda Keeler of Wichita, Janet Scheidegger (Gary) of Topeka, Anita Pranter (Charlie) of Iowa, and sons, Alan (Dianna) of Augusta, and Fred (Debbie) of Wichita, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Doyle and Edwin, and sisters Isabelle Hoffman, Mary Kay Rausch, and Betty Custer.
