John D. Gist

John D. Gist, 74, entered into his eternal life on January 31, 2017. A lifelong Wichitian, only spending time in Manhattan, KS, at KSU, to complete his degree in Architecture. He had 3 careers starting with the City of Wichita as City Planner, next with Oblinger/Smith Inc. as an architect and land planner, and then with Wichita State University serving as Director of Facilities Planning. John is survived by Mary (Moore) whom he married in 1963, and had their son Robert in 1966. Sister Jill and her husband Ken Cooley, their 4 children and families also survive. John always enjoyed winter and summer activities with family in Colorado. He was a longtime member of Rotary International, Wichita chapter, served 2 terms on the board of Senior Services, Inc., and an active member at Rolling Hills Country Club for 38 years. Memorial service will be held at Lakeview on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 2pm. Dignity Celebrant Cyndi Pearce will officiate. Memorials can be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 N.
