Dr. Jon Kardatzke, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to his heavenly home Friday, February 25, 2022. Dr. Kardatzke was born on June 7, 1936, in Anderson, Indiana, the firstborn child of Rev. E.E. and Vera Kardatzke. When he was five, his family moved to Lawrence, Kansas, and then to Wichita in 1948, where his father was the senior pastor of First Church of God (now Central Community Church). Jon met his future wife Lorna at Camp Fellowship church camp; they later became engaged as students at Anderson College (University). Dr. Jon graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1962 and completed an internship at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas before being drafted and serving in the Army in Oberammergau, Germany for two years.
In 1965, Jon and his brother Dr. Stan Kardatzke established what is now known as West Wichita Family Physicians. He was the co-founder of Terrace Gardens and Maple Gardens nursing homes.
In 1968, Jon and Lorna Kardatzke began teaching Sunday School at First Church of God. They taught The Gleaners, a college age class, for several years, and then taught Quo Vadis, a young marrieds’ class, for over twenty years. Together, Jon and Lorna taught thousands in successful marriage seminars, which led to his authoring the book, Marriage Can Be Fun!
Dr. Jon was an avid collector and historian. In 1955, on a family mission trip, Jon purchased an ancient coin depicting Herod the Great; this experience ignited his lifelong fascination with collecting and history. After retiring from medicine, in 2001, Jon and Lorna co-founded the non-profit Museum of World Treasures, which has since welcomed over 750,000 visitors and houses nearly 9,000 artifacts from over 250 collectors.
Dr. Jon was a man of many passions, but his greatest was his love for Jesus Christ. We are so thrilled his faith has now become sight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. E.E. and Vera Kardatzke, and his brother, Dr. Stan Kardatzke. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lorna (Smith), his sister Suzi Kardatzke, his children, Teri Estes (Ken), Dr. Scott Kardatzke (Cindy), and Kim Noller (Mike), six grandchildren, Dr. Brynne Mulloy (Ryan), Josh Kardatzke (Megan), Alexis Kardatzke, Dillon Noller (Samantha), Keenan Noller (Jen), and Tristan Noller, and six great grandchildren, Eevie and Birdie Mulloy, Theo and James Noller, and June and Ellie Kardatzke.
In honor of Dr. Jon, a Celebration Service will be held Saturday April 9, 2022 at 2 pm at Central Community Church, 6100 W Maple Street, Wichita, KS 67209
