Joyce Almera Caywood

J. Almera Caywood was born on 9/25/37 and passed away in her home on April 5, 2014. She was born in Hahira, Georgia to Johnnie B. Coppage and Maggie Sellars. Almera grew up in Quitman, GA and attended Mississippi Bible College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies. She later went on to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas. Almera was the first social worker in the USD #259 school system, where she was employed for over 3 decades. Almera met Elzay Caywood, Jr. in Great Bend, Kansas, where they married on 3/25/61. She is survived by her sister, Elvaree (and Donald) Ramsey of Quitman, GA and her 4 children: Alexa (and David) Parnell of Carrollton, TX, Chet Caywood of Oklahoma City, OK, Monica Smith and Lance (and Susan) Caywood, all of Wichita, KS. Almera is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Reilley Nystrom, Kaela Parnell, Kyle Smith, Nikki Smith, Tess Caywood, Madison Caywood and Micah Parnell. The family appreciates the care and love shown by Interim Healthcare and Hospice of Wichita during her many days of struggling with terminal cancer. Funeral service is 10:00 am Wednesday, April 9 at Resthaven Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interim at 333 S. Broadway, Suite 104, Wichita, KS 67202.
