Judith Ann Doub

Judy Ann Doub passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born to Mary Isabelle Taylor and Kenneth Lee Umbarger on December 9, 1943, in Portland Oregon.

Delights of Life “One summer I went on vacation with my Aunt Bessie and Uncle Vernon to Yellowstone National Park. We slept in a tent at night and spent our days marveling at the geysers and the winding wild scenery.” “When the kids were in grade school, Aunt Bessie used to take us to McDonalds. She taught us to eat dessert first, so you’d always have room for it.” Another fond story Judy shared with the family was a time her Aunt Bessie and Uncle Vernon took her out for a stroll downtown through the shops. While passing one of the stores, Judy’s eyes were caught by the many small television screens in the window. They were airing Lassie. Aunt Bessie and Uncle Vernon had been walking beside her, but when she stopped to watch Lassie, they turned to see her reaction. Judy watched as Lassie came running down the road towards her, to which she bent over patting her knees calling, “Lassie, here girl! Come to me Lassie”. To say this was a precious moment for her Aunt and Uncle would be an understatement.

Judy graduated from Neodesha High School, Neodesha, Kansas Class of 1962. She then went on to attend the Nursing Program at Newman University, Wichita, Kansas (1981 was when she went back and graduated in 1983) “[I] always wanted to become a nurse and loved helping people.” Till the very end, Judy never lost her touch with caring for her loved ones and friends.

At twelve, Judy taught herself how to sew. Money was tight and she wanted a new dress to wear to Sunday school, so she found a simple pattern and fabric her mom had and read directions (very important tip) and this little project made her realize she needed to learn more and took Home Economics in school & led her to sew for the kids growing up. And if you had the pleasure of her homemade embroidered Christmas cards you were truly blessed. Another thing she loved doing, and was proud of, was her abilities were her quilts. One of her favorites was the Christmas Quilt she worked hard on, so it could be auctioned off at the Thayer Bizarre. Her talent was endless. Archery was also a favorite and camping with the granddaughters.

Judy married the love of her life, John Paul Doub Jr. “I met John at a swimming pool. My left leg was in a cast, I broke it while roller skating in independence. I remember feeling oddly cheerful despite the bandage, I thought he was cute, but he was seeing someone else, so I simply talked to him. I wasn’t into stealing another girl’s boyfriend.”

They were married in Neodesha, Kansas. For their honeymoon they spent a week in John’s grandparents cabin up north. Together they had three children, John Paul Doub III who was born on December 24, 1964, Jenise Ann Doub, who was born on April 19, 1966 in Tribute to John and Sissy Bug “I am blessed, fulfilled, and happy I have a loving husband and two wonderful children, and their presence fills my life with joy and purpose.”

Those reminders—said plainly and often are the real treasures we leave behind.” “My grandchildren and great-grandchildren bring me so much joy. They love me and let me be part of their lives; they are an extension of my children and a constant blessing.” “Take time for yourself and believe in yourself. You are important.” “Be kind, because if you haven’t walked in someone else’s shoes, you don’t know how they feel or what has happened in their life.” “When I have departed this life, remember I will always be with you in spirit and will welcome you in heaven.”

Judy is survived by John Doub Jr., of the home, John Doub III (Sherri), Jenise Doub, Kristi Doub; grandchildren, John Doub IV (Kat), Nicole Hiatt (Tony), Haley Bibby (Kevin), Tannah Doub (Matt), Amber Hiatt; great grandchildren, Boe, Levi, Triston, Riley, Sam, Aubrey, and Emma. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary & Kenny Umbarger; John’s parents, John Paul Sr. & Eleda Doub; brother, Richard (Dick) Umbarger; grandsons Trey & Matthew Doub and John’s sister, Jeanette Harris.
