Justin Hendry, 48, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 16, 2026. He was born December 1, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas to Douglas Hendry and Joy (Hendry) Edwards. Justin will be remembered with deep respect for the steady presence he was to those who knew and loved him.
He graduated from Augusta High School as a member of the Class of 1997, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life defined by devotion to family and a sincere regard for others. He started his career as a drywaller following high school. Justin spent the last 15 years as a lead carpenter for USD 260 Derby Public Schools.
Justin met Erin Kane at church, and they were married on March 15, 2003. He was a loving husband, an engaging father, and a caring friend—someone who carried himself with honor in the roles that mattered most, including as a brother and a friend. He was the proud father of Grace Hendry (born August 10, 2005) and Emilee Hendry (born October 21, 2011). Justin was a lifelong Christian with a love for Jesus.
He had a passion for making and listening to music. He loved board games and entertaining others. He also enjoyed making his own board games. He was a foodie who loved to cook and bake for his family, friends and coworkers. He could smoke a mean brisket. He was a builder and enjoyed making beautiful creations with his hands. He liked playing video games and watching movies with Star Wars being his favorite. Many didn't know he was a secret Trekkie. His sense of humor was timeless and with him to the end.
He is preceded in death by Keith and Frieda (Swanson) Pettibon; Vryl and Maybelle (Myers) Hendry.
Justin is survived by his spouse, Erin (Kane) Hendry; his mother, Joy Edwards with Gary Edwards; his father, Douglas Hendry with Gladys Hendry; his children, Grace Hendry with boyfriend, Jackson Savich and Emilee Hendry; his siblings, Jason Hendry with Katie Hendry, Erin (Hendry) Pittenger with Travis Pittenger, Gavin Edwards, Jon Kinoshita with Bayli Palmer; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209, on September 21, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Riverlawn Christian Church, 4243 N Meridian Ave, Wichita, KS 67204, on September 22, 2026, at 11:00 am with a Committal Service immediately to follow in procession to Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. Hwy 54, Wichita, KS 67209 in The Garden of Cross.
