

Karen Ruth Doerr, 71, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1954, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to James William Doerr and Jessie Irene (Buckley) Doerr. Karen lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and quiet strength, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Karen pursued her calling to care for others through nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wichita State University. She devoted an extraordinary 46 years of service as a nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Wesley Hospital, where she was deeply respected for her clinical skill, calm presence, and unwavering commitment to her patients. Nursing was not just her profession—it was her life’s work, and she touched countless lives through her steady hands and compassionate heart.
Outside of her career, Karen found joy in life’s quieter pleasures. She was an avid reader, loved music theatre, and had a deep appreciation for travel, always eager to explore new places and stories. These passions reflected her curious spirit, thoughtful nature, and love of both learning and beauty.
Karen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Jessie Doerr. She is survived by her brother, James Edward (Tami) Doerr of Rocky River, Ohio; her cherished nephews, Jacob W. Doerr of Cleveland, Ohio, Braden R. Doerr of Chicago, Illinois, and Lane E. Doerr of Rocky River, Ohio; along with extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Karen’s legacy lives on in the lives she healed, the comfort she offered, and the love she quietly gave throughout her life. She will be remembered for her dedication, kindness, and the difference she made simply by caring so deeply.

A Graveside Service for Karen will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in the Garden of Meditation, 12100 E. 13th Street N., Wichita, Kansas 67206, on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 10:00 am.
