Karen had a passion for food. She had a long career in catering and concessions that took her all over the country and spanned decades. A few of her jobs included: 11 years as the Kitchen Manager for Derby High School, 15 years as the Dietary Mangaer at the Kansas Masonic Home, was the owner of Devine Deli, General Manager at Sodrac Park in Sioux City, SD, and General Manager at Century II, where she met her husband, Melvin, and her legacy would take flight. Her love for food didn’t stop at the workday’s end. Karen poured her heart into her recipes at home for her family members and friends and you never left her home hungry.

Karen was an optimistic and kind person who was her family's biggest cheerleader and fan. No matter the situation, she coached her family through each triumph and defeat. Whether it was sending flowers to their work to cheer them up, her frequent cards just to convey her love, or just a sweet heart to heart, she encouraged her family to be strong. She reminded them all would be well, that it all was in god's hands and they would be ok.

Karen's was a member of Glenville Bible Baptist Church for 22 years and lived a godly life through her words and her works. Her optimism and hope was infectious and deeply rooted in her faith. She was made loving, caring and strong through the promises God made to her and to all those who believe. Through her steadfast faith, she imparted a legacy of hope, kindness and love that will not be forgotten but forever treasured. She will deeply missed beyond all measure.

I have many fond memories of Karen as a colleague and friend when we worked together at the Masonic Home. She would do ANYTHING for the residents and went the second mile to make life good. She even got her family involved for special events. Her children learned to work hard and to be compassionate and loving. Karen was one of a kind.

Loved Karen, never knew her to have an unkind word about anyone. Enjoyed times we shared together in the kitchen. She always laughed at my jokes and acted like they were funny. Great woman who loved God and will be missed by many.
