Karla "Kay" Amaro passed away on August 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Carthage, Missouri, to Claude and Etta Mitchell, Kay lived a life centered on faith, family, and adventure. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Al Amaro Jr., creating a lifetime of treasured memories through travel, laughter, and family traditions.
After 25 years of dedicated service as a Shipping and Receiving Clerk at Sam's Club, Kay retired to fully enjoy the life she loved. She found happiness in camping, boating, fishing, bicycling, bird watching, shopping, and exploring new places. One of her favorite traditions was spending the winter months with Al searching for bald eagles, often spotting as many as 18 to 22 during their outings. A passionate fisherman and champion angler, Kay treasured every opportunity to be outdoors, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Above all else, Kay cherished her family. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with those she loved, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Al Amaro Jr.; her children, Michael Hart and Carrie (Sherm) Nichols; her grandchildren, Rebekah and Aaron Westerfield, Jared and Lauren Hart, Jennifer and Mark Pinta, and Andy Nichols; her 12 great-grandchildren; her beloved dog, Bella; and many extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Etta Mitchell; her sister, Barbara Borland; her brothers, Rick Mitchell and Claude Mitchell Jr.; her son, Jeff Hart; and her daughter-in-law, Shannon Hart.
Kay will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family. Her warmth, laughter, and zest for life will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Life Service for Kay, will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026, with family greeting an hour prior, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
