Kenneth E. Haddock, 88, died July 25, 2013, of pneumonia. He had been in declining health for a number of years due to a series of strokes. He has traded an old worn out body for a new imperishable one as he is reunited in the presence of Christ with Genevieve, his brothers, sisters, and mother and father. Ken was born to Taylor Erastus and Blanche May (Anderson) Haddock on October 24, 1924, in Texas County, Oklahoma. He was the seventh of eight children, who all preceded him in death: Harold Haddock , Bernice Begole, Vera Grewell, Elsie Godley, Lanore Atherton, Edna Bronkar, James Haddock and grandson David Pearson. He grew up in and around Hooker, Oklahoma and graduated from Hooker High School. Unable to enlist in WWII because of a congenital ear defect, he moved to Wichita to work in the war effort at Culver Aircraft, serving as a model builder and draftsman. He met his future wife, Genevieve Colyer, at his sister Lanore’s church. They were soon engaged and married on June 9, 1945. During the next few years, he worked as a foreman, then shop superintendent at Davis Manufacturing until it was sold to Case. The remainder of his working years were spent as manager of a mobile home dealership and mobile home court. The most important things to Ken were family and faith. At his side, the boys had the “opportunity” to learn how to do all sorts of construction and repair work and how to maintain their cars. At Wellington Place Baptist Church, he sang in the church choir, was part of a Gospel quartet, and held many leadership positions, including deacon and building chairman. He had a quick wit and loved people and travel. He was an especially dedicated caregiver to his wife during the last three years of her life. Genevieve died in June 2003. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Bradley and Terri Haddock, and Richard and Amanda Haddock, of Wichita, and David and Noni Haddock of Nashville, TN, and his seven grandchildren--Austin and Sarah Haddock, Briston and Kinsley Haddock, Austin Pearson, and Naomi and Colyer Haddock.
A short graveside service will be conducted at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1824 N. Oliver, Wichita, at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Later that morning, at 11 a.m., Ken’s life will be celebrated at the First Baptist Church of Maize, 627 S. James Ave., Maize, KS. Lunch will be provided at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Maize, 627 S. James Ave., Maize, KS, 67101-9678.
