Ken was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose strength, wisdom, and love touched the lives of so many. He will be remembered for his intelligence, bravery, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Ken is survived by his wife of 42 years, Connie; two sisters; one brother; two stepdaughters; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Beulah Tillotson, and his son, Kenneth Ray Tillotson Jr.
Born and raised in Nevada, Iowa, Ken spent his childhood creating memories that he cherished throughout his life. Two of his favorite stories were catching frogs as a boy and sitting on the hood of his uncle's car, watching airplanes pass overhead and dreaming of where they might be headed.
During high school, Ken participated in many sports but found a special passion for basketball. His determination and competitive spirit were evident both on and off the court.
In 1959, Ken entered the United States Air Force and began a distinguished military career that took him around the world. During his service, he earned numerous medals and commendations recognizing his accomplishments as a Security Police Superintendent and Law Enforcement Security Instructor. He excelled in the training of military K-9 units and served three tours in Vietnam. Although he rarely spoke about his experiences during the war, those years undoubtedly shaped the strength, character, and resilience that defined him throughout his life.
In 1984, Ken met the love of his life, Connie, during a lunch at Don's Café. They built a beautiful life together and shared 42 years of marriage filled with love, adventure, and companionship. Together they traveled to 24 states, creating countless cherished memories along the way. Their years together were also enriched by beloved pets, growing families, and the joy of watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ken found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved reading, weightlifting, and creating stained-glass artwork. His curiosity, creativity, and dedication to lifelong learning remained with him throughout his life.
One of the highlights of Ken's later years came in 2025 when he participated in a Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. The experience was deeply meaningful. As veterans were greeted with cheers and gratitude at every stop, Ken was moved to tears. For many Vietnam veterans, the welcome home they deserved was long delayed. This trip provided a powerful moment of recognition and appreciation—a full-circle experience that honored both his service and sacrifice.
Please keep us in your prayers as we honor and celebrate the life of Ken.
Forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
