Captain Feuerborn was born May 16, 1959, in Wichita, KS to Max H. and Leona B. Feuerborn. Feuerborn graduated from Wichita High School South in 1977 and attended Wichita State University. He joined the Wichita Fire Department in 1978 and promoted to Lieutenant in 1989 and made Captain in 2016. After serving the past 44 years, retirement was in his sights.
Captain Feuerborn was married to Eunice A. Howard and was stepparent to her daughter Keesha. They enjoyed life together and soon had grandchildren to add to the mix.
Larry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life; family reunions, friends, travel, telling jokes, stories, tall tales, and riding his motorcycle with Fire & Iron MC, Station 54.
To his fire service family, he was known as “The Legend” but to his nieces and nephews he was “Uncle Worley”, a nickname he was given when little ones could not quite pronounce Larry. Feuerborn enjoyed children and was a “kid at heart” himself. He loved giving tours of the station house to children and their families. He always had fire badge stickers and memorabilia to pass out to children he might meet. Feuerborn loved what he did! His dedication and commitment to his job and fellow firefighters was commendable. His greatest accomplishment and proud moments were to continue raising his grandchildren after his wife’s death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, and brother Douglas Myers.
Those left to cherish his memories are his grandchildren, Micael Haskins, Emma Howard and Peyton Howard of Wichita, KS; stepdaughter Keesha Howard of Wichita, KS; sisters, Sheryl Myers of Columbia, SC and Deann Smith (James) of Shawnee, OK; sister-in-law Linda Myers of Belle Plaine, KS; brothers, Steven Feuerborn (Tabatha) of Clearwater, KS, Marty Feuerborn of Wichita, KS and many nieces and nephews and their families.
