Orbit Leon Clevenger, age 94, of Wichita, Kansas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 13, 2025. He was born September 5, 1930 in Fordland, Missouri to Lewis Harrison Clevenger and Lilly Mae (Pogue) Clevenger.
Leon met Betty June Gassoway at work and they instantly fell in love. They were married the day she graduated from high school and they were happily married for 70 years. He enlisted in The United States Army as a medic and served in Germany from 1950-1953. He worked at Hyde Park making ice cream and eventually went to Vulcan Chemicals as a truck driver. When he retired they moved to Branson so they could fish and him and Betty ended up working at Silver Dollar City for a fun job.
Leon loved camping, fishing, boating and gardening. His biggest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. He has a nephew Junior that was only 5 years younger than him and they were the best of friends until the very end.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Clevenger; his children, Kathy Clevenger and Gary Clevenger; his parents and all of his siblings.
Leon is survived by his son, Milton (Kelly) Clevenger; grandchildren: Jennifer Edmonson, Dustin (Trish) Clevenger, Josh (Trisha) Clevenger, Trevor Clevenger, Grayson Clevenger, Ethan Clevenger and Arabella Clevenger; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM with a funeral service starting at 10:00 AM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in the Garden of Faith.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Leon's memory to American Cancer Society or Believers Southern Baptist Church, 13909 W 21st St, Wichita, KS 67235.
