Leona was born January 9, 1919, in Olmitz, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Christina (Schenk) Jilg. She was united in marriage to Louis Gerritzen and the couple farmed in the Piqua area.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Aaron, Paul and Jack; sister Sr. Anastasia Jilg and brother-in-law Elmer Gross.
She is survived by her sister Betty Gross; brother Carl (Tessie) Jilg; sisters-in-law Marie Jilg; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces.
