Linda Anne Swenson

Linda was born on June 27, 1947, in South Carolina, to Levi and Ruth Mobley. As the daughter of a military family, she spent her childhood moving to various locations, including time in Okinawa, experiences that helped shape her adventurous spirit and resilience.

She graduated from El Camino College in California with a degree in nursing in 1968 before beginning her career in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, where she was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts.

Linda eventually made her home in Independence, Kansas, where she lived for more than 40 years. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church and generously gave her time through youth ministries and numerous volunteer committees. Among her most cherished experiences were participating in two East Conference youth trips to Israel, where she helped guide and encourage young people in their faith.

She had a lifelong love of animals. Although she always appreciated pets, it wasn't until her daughter brought home a college cat named Tigger that Linda discovered a special affection for cats. Tigger quickly became her beloved companion. After Tigger's passing, she opened her heart once again by adopting a stray cat, Dexter, who remained faithfully by her side for the rest of her life.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Levi Mobley and Ruth Mobley Rodgers, and her brother, Bobby Mobley.

She is survived by her daughter, Devota Gardner and her husband, Mike; her son, Stephen Swenson; her dear cousins, Luther "Beau" Wood and Pam Herweg; and many friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, compassion, and faithful service to others.

Linda loved her children immensely and was proud of the lives they built. Her family will carry forward the memories of her life, her service, and the experiences they shared together.

Linda will be remembered for her dedication to nursing, her commitment to her church and community, her love for animals, and the quiet ways she cared for those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), a ministry that reflects Linda's lifelong commitment to serving others.
