Lola "Judy" M. (Hansen) HENSLEY, age 98, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Wednesday April 29, 2020. "Judy" was born April 22, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas to Minnie Fischer-Hansen and William Henry Hansen.
Judy was raised on a wheat farm near Mt. Hope, KS. As a child, she relished working with her Dad doing various farm chores. One of her favorite memories was riding her horse to the little country school. After graduation from Mt. Hope High School (where she was nicknamed Judy), she moved to Wichita to attend nurses training and later worked at Beech Aircraft during World War II. It was there where she met W.A. Hensley. They were married May 14, 1946 in Mexico City. Eight years later, Vicki Lynn was born and Debbie Lou followed two years after that. The Hensley family lived in a home designed and built by W.A. and Judy which was located east of Wichita.
Judy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and camping. Close ties with family and lady friends, known as “the club girls”, were important to her. When Vicki and Debbie entered school, Judy became involved with the Parent Teacher Association where she served as president for two years. After Vicki and Debbie graduated from college, W.A. and Judy retired to Kihei, Maui. Hawaiian words became a part of their vocabulary and they were later named “Tutus” by their grandchildren. This word means “grandparents” in Hawaiian.
Their love of travel took them to Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. To more fully experience life in different parts of the U.S., they also lived in California, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona. Their last residence in Phoenix was enjoyed by both their children and grandchildren as an escape from cold winters to the warm Phoenix climate. Judy and W.A. were married 63 years. After W.A.’s passing, Judy moved back to Wichita.
Judy is survived by; daughters Vicki Martens (Steve), and Debbie Hensley-Perry (John); grandchildren Kelly Gleisner (Russell), Molly Martens (Alex Arambula), Kylee Coiner (Joe Liebmann), and Colton Coiner; and great grandchild Lyla Gleisner.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband W. A. Hensley; father William Henry Hansen and mother Minnie Fischer-Hansen.
A private family service will be held for Judy at Lakeview Funeral Home.
