Rumsey, Lorie J., 80, passed away January 22, 2016. Lorie was the daughter of Nathaniel Macon Dudley, Jr., and Dorothea (Smith) Dudley. Lorie was born June 22, 1935, at Newman Regional Community Hospital in Emporia, Kansas. She graduated from St. Joseph Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1953 after she completed her freshman, sophomore, and junior years at Wichita East High School. She graduated from Kansas University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1957. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the love of her life, Richard H. Rumsey, her older sister, Dorothy Reed, her niece Debbie and nephew David. She is survived by her two wonderful children, Robb W. Rumsey, a Sedgwick County District Court Judge, and Bruce D. Rumsey, a Graduate Professor and Doctor of Counseling in Littleton, Colorado. Robb is married to Barbara (Hathaway) Rumsey, and they have 5 children between them: David (Eve) of Kansas City, Matthew of Littleton, Colorado, Drew (Stacie) of Wichita, Melissa of Wichita, and Kaley of Wichita. Bruce is married to Tracey (Lawrence) Rumsey, and they have 5 children, all of Littleton, Colorado: Reece, Brielle, Keland, Jayce, and Shay. Lorie is also survived by her younger brother, Nathaniel Macon (Susan) Dudley, III, of St. Joseph, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews, and the rest of her family and friends. After she graduated from Kansas University Lorie continued her education at the Graduate School at Wichita State. She taught Kindergarten, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grade English for a time, however she sacrificed her opportunity for further professional accomplishments to accept her true calling and vocation as a mother, grandmother, wife and tireless volunteer in her community. Lorie was a Master Pianist who believed that she had been blessed abundantly and had a responsibility to help others less fortunate. She, along with her longtime dear friend Elaine Nigh, volunteered throughout the Wichita area for over half a century. She played the piano at Christ Villa adult day care, Wichita Presbyterian Manor, and Lake Point Nursing Center (formerly Terrace Gardens). She had a special place in her heart for the disabled and disadvantaged and for many years volunteered to play the piano for the Can-Do Class at Central Community Church. She served on the board of The Phyllis Wheatley Chirldren's Home and The Wichita Art Museum. She volunteered at the Union Rescue Mission and with the American Cancer Society. Lorie was a member of the Wichita Bar Auxiliary and the Wichita Junior League. She also maintained active participation in her Kappa, Kappa Gamma Sorority through the holiday house tours for many years. She was a faithful member of Central Community Church, was a host home for her "TLC" group and regularly participated in bible studies. Her deep faith in God and his Son, Jesus Christ, sustained her and compelled her to provide boundless faith, hope and love to Wichita's homeless, orphans, and developmentally challenged. She never tired of loving, hugging, and playing her piano for the people who needed it most. In spite of her many activities she always put her family first. Her Family was blessed to have such a caring, nurturing, loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister in law, aunt and friend. She continues to provide her family with an example of how they are to live their life. Lorie, our mom, grandma, sister, and dearest friend will be deeply missed by family, friends, and this grateful community. While we mourn our loss we are comforted in the knowledge that today God has welcomed her home. Visitation with family is 4-6 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service is 10 a.m Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Central Community Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Youth Horizons, The Donna Sweet Emergency fund, The Union Rescue Mission, and Central Community Church.
