Though this was her given name, to most she was simply known as Louise. To some, she was "Sis," and to others, "Mema." To say that she loved her family would be an understatement.
Louise was born in Drummond, Oklahoma, on January 5, 1933, to James and Eva May Luginbill. She was the first of six children, followed by Duane, Phyllis, Glynn, Dennis, and Larry. Growing up, Louise and her family didn’t have many material possessions, but they had an abundance of love. They were taught the value of hard work and raised with the belief that family is everything—principles Louise carried with her throughout her life.
She spent much of her youth in Wichita, Kansas–specifically in the Plainview area. As a young girl, she would ride her bike across town to babysit. Later, during her senior year of high school, she worked at a movie theater. It was there that she met and fell in love with her future husband and the love of her life, Bill.
In May of 1951, Louise graduated from high school, and on August 11 of that same year, she and Bill were married. In their early years together, Bill and Louise enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether hosting gatherings at their home or enjoying a night out dancing. Louise especially loved doing her hair and makeup, dressing up, and wearing jewelry. And what a beauty she was—inside and out. It's no wonder Bill fell in love with her so quickly.
On August 30, 1952, they welcomed their first child, Sandra Gaylene (“Sandy”). Two years later, on June 3, 1954, they were blessed with a son, Randall Anan (“Randy”).
Over the years, the family moved a few times—from Wichita to California, and later to McPherson, Kansas, where Louise worked at Kit Manufacturing. But it was Wichita that always felt like home. In 1980, once they were empty nesters, Bill and Louise returned to Wichita, where Louise began working at Boeing and would later retire from the company.
Some of Louise’s favorite things included celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family, attending picnics and reunions—really, any excuse to be together was perfect for her. One of her love languages was cooking, and she was known for preparing large, delicious meals for these occasions, always making more than enough! She also loved shopping and going on vacations. Her favorite destination by far was Las Vegas. After returning to Wichita, she and Bill traveled there nearly every year for several years.
On August 11, 2001, with close family gathered around them, Bill and Louise celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows in—where else—Las Vegas.
Sadly, on March 29, 2003, Louise lost Bill, the love of her life. It was a heartbreaking time, but she found strength in the love and support of her family. Their presence helped her remember the good times, rediscover her smile, and keep moving forward. In time, she began traveling again with loved ones and had the joy of meeting her great-great-grandchildren, truly some of her happiest moments. We must also mention Snuggles, her beloved four-legged companion. From the moment she brought that puppy home, she was smitten. Snuggles had more toys than most babies and was a constant source of comfort and joy when others couldn't be there.
Tragically, on June 5, 2019, Louise experienced another tremendous loss when her daughter Sandy passed away after a battle with cancer.
In July 2021, Louise could no longer live independently and moved into an assisted living facility in Wichita. As her health continued to decline, she was moved in August 2024 to Kansas Christian Home, a long-term care facility in Newton, Kansas. There, she received compassionate care, and beginning in January 2025, Phoenix Hospice also provided support.
In the early morning hours of April 25, 2025, Louise passed away peacefully in her sleep—reunited at last with Bill, Sandy, and so many others who went before her.
