M. Lucille Severe

M. Lucille Severe, lovingly known as “Good Deal Lucille,” passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 91 in Wichita, Kansas.

Lucille was born on April 6, 1935, in McFall, Missouri, to Harvey Harmon and Alta Oma (Musick) Harmon. She graduated from Pattonsburg High School in Pattonsburg, Missouri, as valedictorian of her class in 1953.

In May 1954, Lucille married the love of her life, John W. Severe. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and enduring love.

Lucille enjoyed a successful career in business and accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper for Burris Mills in Kansas City, then became a mother and homemaker for ten years. Later, she became an assistant first as a merchandiser, then bought Commerce Brokerage as owner and gained notoriety in 26 states as a woman in a man's world. Through hard work and perseverance, she continued operating the business until her retirement in 2000. As of today, her son Kevin still continues to operate the business.

Faith was an important part of Lucille's life. As a Christian learning from her own mother Alta Oma (Musick) Harmon, Lucille channeled the Holy Spirit herself. She was a member of Valley Center Methodist Church in Valley Center, Kansas.

Lucille found joy in life’s simple pleasures and adventures alike. She loved reading, working word puzzles, taking cruises, RV traveling, and can beat everyone in Wheel of Fortune. Lucille was a social butterfly and always hosting gatherings and most of all spending time with family and friends. Her warm presence, sharp mind, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Lucille is survived by her sons, John G. Severe and Kevin E. Severe (Connie); grandchildren Montana, Tricia, Stephanie, Luke, Matthew, and Lizzy; and great-grandchildren Braxton, Laekyn, and Kohen. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, John W. Severe, six siblings, and many dear friends.

Honorary Pallbearers will be John G. Severe, Kevin Severe, Luke Severe, Matthew Severe, Pat Thacker, and Patrick Morrison.

Lucille's legacy of faith, determination, kindness, and devotion to family will be cherished forever by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Joint Memorial Service for John and Lucille will be held on October 3, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Gracepoint Church, 9035 W Central, Wichita, KS.
