She continued her education at the KC Secretarial School in Kansas City, Missouri and received her diploma on October 5, 1945 and accepted a job in Topeka. It was on a bus trip to see her new nephew that she met her future husband, Carroll Milton Casey. Marcella and Carroll were married on a Sunday morning September 8, 1946 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Duluth, Kansas. They lived in Kansas City until Carroll’s retirement and then moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas with some winters in Yuma, Arizona. They were married for more than 75 years and raised three children: Sandra Kay, Paul David, and Timothy Lawrence.
Marcella worked as a secretary in the early years of their marriage and was also an avid Avon salesperson as well as an Avon collector. She knew and loved her Lord and served the churches in Kansas City and Bella Vista and people wherever she saw need. She loved her family and always loved bringing together her siblings and later her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the consummate host and link between family members and friends. She square danced while they were in Yuma and loved playing games, especially when she won. Cooking and hosting events were always a celebration of food and family surrounded by God’s love and Grace.
