Marie passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the age of 84 in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 14, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas to Joseph and Juanita (Sepulveda) Jiminez. Marie had 10 brothers and sisters, Eddie, Bobby, Adeline, Frank, Michael, Sally, Bea, Arthur, Julie and John.
Marie graduated from North High School and went on to get her associate’s degree in education. She worked at JC Penny, Sheplers and found her way to the Wichita public school district where she later retired.
Marie attended Christ the King church and was a lecturer, did rosaries and was part of the altar society. She was a devout catholic and had prayers for everyone. She was known as a “Prayer Warrior” and she loved to sing. She enjoyed quilting, bingo, gardening and was a Chiefs fan. She also loved children and her family very much. She always stayed close to her family and was devoted to making them happy.
Marie met David Rothenberger at a dance in Wichita and later married him. They were married for over 50 years and had one child, James Rothenberger.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Joseph; siblings, Bob and Ed and her beloved husband, David. She is survived by her son, James and wife Tammi who was like a daughter to her; grandchildren, Quentin, Noah, Dylan, Vanessa, Destiny, Phoenix, Grace and Malachi; great grandchildren, Sophia, Mateo and Santiago “Santi” Ortega, Phoenix Jr who she was looking forward to welcoming into the world in August and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
After Dave’s passing, she went to live with James and Tammi and grandchildren and great grandchildren until her passing. She was known for her cheese enchiladas, Spanish rice and hot sauce. Her tender spirit, thoughtfulness and determination. Her beautiful hands that were always finding something to do someone to help.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 6 pm – 8 pm, with rosary at 7 with a celebration of life on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 10 am, both at Christ the King Church, 4411 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209.
