
Martin passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 94 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. He was born to Andrew and Rhoda Ann (Cretzmeyer) Thornburg on April 20, 1932, in Alton, Kansas.
Martin graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s degree in both Math and Physics. On September 18, 1952, he married Patricia Louise Hunter and together they had two children, Pam and Mark.
Martin enlisted in the Navy from 1952 – 1954 and was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii. He deployed to Okinawa, Japan for a short time. During his time in the service, he worked on maintenance of aircraft avionics during the Korean War. Martin retired from Boeing as an Avionics Engineering Manager. After he retired, he worked part-time for H&R Block to keep his mind active.
Martin coached his son’s baseball team and enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed reading and doing Sudoku puzzles. He owned Akitas and was a Wichita State University basketball season ticket holder.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents and son, Mark Thornburg. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Lelond of Olathe, Kansas.
