Mary lived in Clay Center with her Aunt Inie for a years, then moved to Blunt Street and lived there until 1944. Mary moved to Lawrence, Kansas and worked in the powder lab at the Sunflower Army Ammunition plant for a year. She then attended Kansas State.
Mary met Lyman Cavin in High School where they started dating. She waited for Lyman to come home from the Army Air Force service. Mary and Lyman Cavin were married June 8, 1947. They remained in Manhattan, Kansas until they moved to Wichita in 1951, where they attended Grace Presbyterian Church. She was active in their Cruiser Club. She cross-stitched several Christmas ornaments for the group.
The family was able to travel throughout the United States because of Lyman's job with Prudential. They then traveled internationally with several groups.
Mary and Lyman were avid K-State fans and attended the games in Manhattan, along with several bowl games.
One of her hobbies was making crochet rugs. She was able to crochet well into her 90's.The total number of rugs was over 100. She also loved playing bridge and scrabble, which she taught her children to be even better at it then her.
Mary will be remembered for her poetry and rhyming. Not only could she write poems, she could recite them.
Mary is survived by her daughter Marilou Cavin (James Hopper); son John R. Cavin (Marie); grandchildren Rachel Rodriguez (Sam) and Robert Cavin; and great grandchildren Quinn, Amaya, and Aria.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Lyman Cavin; son Joseph W. Cavin; parents; brother Frank Wylie; and sister Charlotte Nushy.
Services will be held at the Presbyterian Manor Chapel on_____ located at 1429 Kasold Dr, Lawrence, Kansas 66049. A private burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery.
