

Wichita, Kansas -- Mary E. Dienstbach, 93, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2023. She was born on February 20, 1930 to Mollie Freeland Talley Montgomery and H.K. "Knox" Montgomery in Houston, Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Bill Dienstbach, and two brothers, Franklin Montgomery (Bettie) and William Montgomery (Dana).
She is survived by three brothers, Knox Montgomery (Vivian), David Montgomery (Kay), and Robert Montgomery (Julia). Also surviving Mary are her three sons, Byron, Carlton (Nancy), and Daryl (Jeff). Also, granddaughters, Carly (Hadi), Taylor, and Corrie.
On July 1, 1950, Mary married the "love of her life" Bill at the Oakwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.They moved from Houston to Wichita in 1960, after Bill was transferred by New York Life Insurance Company as Office Manager. They became very active members of West Heights United Methodist Church and served regularly as greeters and ushers and on various church committees. Mary was an active member of the West Heights Sarah Circle. She also taught nursery school and Sunday school. Gardening became her passion, along with homemaking, and she won the Project Beauty Wichita, Inc. award for her beautiful yard in Reflection Ridge. She also served as President of the West Side Extension Homemakers Unit. Mary always enjoyed dressing up and looking her best. She loved visiting her wonderful hairdressers over the years. Mary often modeled in Botanica's Senior Expo Fashion Show, and was once featured in the Active Aging newspaper wearing her mother's 1927 wedding dress. Mary was a very friendly, thoughtful, caring, and loving person who will be dearly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, April 12, at West Heights United Methodist Church, 745 N. Westlink, Wichita, KS, 67212. A family graveside service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Heights United Methodist Church.
