She went to school at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. She was a Red Raider to the bone and her family enjoyed teasing her about Bobby Knight and Texas Tech playing KU or K-State. In the 1950's Mary moved to Wichita, where she worked as an accountant for Boeing Aircraft. It was while at Boeing she met Jack Garren and they were married for 57 years. Mary and her husband, Jack ran Echo Hills Golf Course from 1955 to 1972. Needless to say most of the family became quite familiar with the golf course, as there was always something that needed to be done. Mary was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Edwin and Edward McKee (Baby). Her survivors are her husband, Jack; sons, Larry (Susan), Kevin (Julie); step-daughters, Connie Minton, Lindy (Charlie) Hobbs; grandchildren, Leslie, Lauren, Sarah and Chris Garren; step-grandchildren, Michael Harrelson, Chris and Beth Simpson.

Funeral service is 10:30 Monday, September 10 at Asbury United Methodist Church.
