Mary Jane Scherer

Mary Jane Scherer, 94, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on November 21, 2025. She was born on February 26, 1931, to Personette Gould and Ruth Hawley Baldwin in Caldwell, New Jersey. A graduate of Grover Cleveland High School, and then Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, Mary Jane married Donald F. Scherer in 1954.

A job with Cessna Aircraft brought them to Wichita, and into membership at East Heights United Methodist Church. There, Mary Jane quickly became involved with the Chancel Choir, the Hand Bell Choir, the Women’s Circle, and served as a front office volunteer. She was also a 40-year volunteer at Wesley Medical Center. Mary Jane was an accomplished seamstress, cook, gardener, and excelled in tennis and golf.

The family will forever remember all the memories made at the family home in Bonnie Brae, as well as family reunions at Tablerock Lake and the lakes of northern Oklahoma. Mary Jane always arrived with her famous lemon bundt cake that everyone feasted on.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Frank Scherer; her parents; her 4 siblings; and infant great-grandson, Brandon Kyle Scherer. Mary Jane leaves behind their 4 children, Leslie (Paul) Lindstrom of Wichita, Lisa (Bruce) Freeman of Overland Park, Kansas, Craig (Rhonda) Scherer of Houston, Texas, and Molly (Brian) Duffy of Corneilius, North Carolina. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
