Mary Evelyn Turner

On June 22, 1968, Mary married the love of her life, Raymond L. Turner, in Wichita, Kansas. Together they built a marriage founded on commitment, loyalty, patience, and enduring love that spanned more than five decades.

Mary was known throughout her life for her strong work ethic, caring spirit, and dedication to serving others. As a talented hairstylist, she spent many years helping people look and feel their best. Through determination and hard work, she fulfilled her dream of owning and operating Celebrity Hair in Wichita. She took great pride in her work and in the relationships she built with her clients and friends before retiring at the age of 56.

While Mary worked diligently throughout her life, her greatest joy was always her family. She often shared that her fondest memories were “the day I got married, the day I had my son Raymie, and the day our Madison was born.” Those cherished moments reflected what mattered most to her: faithfulness, family, and love.

Mary was happiest at home with her beloved husband, Ray. She treasured the simple pleasures of life, especially listening to music from some of her favorite artists, including Etta James, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, and Jackie Wilson. Her home was a place of comfort, warmth, and love, where family always came first.

Mary leaves behind those who will forever cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Raymond L. Turner; her son, Raymond Turner Jr. and wife Elizabeth; her beloved granddaughter, Madison Turner; and her step-grandsons, Abraham Vanek and Gabriel Vanek.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Andrews Jr. and Gladys Cleo Brown; her sisters, Brenda, Betty, and Gladys; and her brothers, Jimmy, Wayne, and David.

Mary will be remembered for her patient heart, steadfast loyalty, hardworking spirit, and the unconditional love she gave to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched throughout her journey. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am on September 18, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th Street N., Wichita, Kansas 67206.
