

Maxine was born on February 1, 1925 to Ed and Lena Weidman Schultz in Carrier, Oklahoma. Maxine was the 3rd oldest of ten children. After a tornado destroyed their house, the family moved to Hunter, Oklahoma where she attended High School.
After graduating from High School, when the young men were heading to fight WWII, she moved to Wichita, Kansas to work for Boeing Aircraft Co. (Industries) as a riveter to support the war effort. After the end of the war, Maxine moved to Enid, Oklahoma and worked for the Greyhound Bus Depot and Southwestern Bell as a long-distance operator.
On August 20, 1948 she would wed Eugene Everett Shaffer. They began their married life while Eugene finished his tour of duty in the Navy in Long Beach, California, and with Maxine establishing a residence in Enid, Oklahoma. After Eugene's return, they eventually settled in Wichita, Kansas where they established their home and raised four children.
After raising her family, Maxine went back to work at Electron and then for Cessna wiring planes until she retired. She loved to garden and enjoyed visits with her family and friends. Maxine and Eugene were married for 51 years until his death in 2000.
Following her husband's passing, Maxine moved to Whitewater, Kansas to be closer to her youngest daughter and family. She spent many days with visits from her great-grandchildren, who would come to watch cartoons and have snacks.
Maxine is survived by her children, Pam Bobbitt (Phoenix, AZ), Eugene H. Shaffer (Augusta, KS), Cate (Ernie Shelby) Shaffer-Shelby (Los Angeles, CA), and Judy Silknitter (Whitewater, KS); 13 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean West (Spearman, TX), Carol Schultz (Enid, OK); brother, Jerry Schultz (Carrollton, TX); and sisters-in-laws Ruth Schultz-Jackson (Pond Creek, OK), Donna Schultz (Pond Creek, OK), Joyce Overton (Pond Creek, OK), Joan Bushnell (Enid, OK) and Dorothy Avery (Denver, CO).
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Shaffer; parents, Ed & Lena Schultz; sisters, Edna Felix, Doris Kent and Maryl Dumbauld; brothers, Kenneth Schultz, Edward Schultz and Dean Schultz; and sons-in-laws, Charles Bobbitt and Vance Silknitter.
Funeral Service for Maxine will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, January 26, 2024 with visitation one hour prior, at Lakeview Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Lakeview Cemetery in the Garden of Meditation, 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
