Melba "Joy" Gamble Nelsen

Melba Joy Nelsen, formerly known as Melba Joy Gamble, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on August 19, 1933, Joy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was marked by love for her family and faith in her church.

Joy was married to William Hilton Gamble from 1950 until his passing in 1998. She later married Murray Dean Nelsen in 2020, who also preceded her in death in 2022. Throughout her life, Joy exemplified dedication to her family and was a cherished member of her community.

She is survived by her four children: Marc Wayne Gamble, Janette Irene Epperly, Nancy Joy Starns (Larry), and William Eric Gamble (Debra). Joy was a proud grandmother of 10, a great-grandmother to 22, and a great-great-grandmother to 2, all of whom will remember her warmth and guidance.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Jacob Burdue and Roxie Dee Burdue; her sister, Millie Dee Burdue; and her granddaughter, Sarah Jayne Gamble.

A devoted member of the Northside Church of Christ, Joy's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in her church community. Her legacy of love, faith, and family will continue to inspire those who knew her.

A memorial service to honor Joy's life will be held at Northside Church of Christ on Friday, December 6th, 2024, at 1:00PM. All who knew her are invited to celebrate her remarkable life.
