Melody Sue Hamlin, lovingly known to family and friends as Mel, Mel Mel, Odie, and most affectionately Mema, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 65, after an extraordinary eleven-year journey marked by courage, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Born December 18, 1960, in Newton, Kansas, to Maurice Lee Naillieux and Patricia Ann Wehry, Melody grew up surrounded by family and graduated from Mulvane High School with the Class of 1978. She later built a career as an Administrative Assistant at Textron, where she was known for her dedication, professionalism, and warm personality.
For the past eleven years, Melody faced one health challenge after another with remarkable strength and determination. Those who knew her often joked that she was like a cat with nine lives because of the many battles she conquered. Through every hardship, she met life with grace, hope, and an unshakable trust in God.
More than anything, Melody cherished her family. Being "Mema" was one of Melody's greatest blessings. Some of her happiest moments were the simple traditions she shared with her grandchildren, especially their weekly trips to Dollar Tree after school. These outings, though small, became cherished memories filled with laughter, treats, and unconditional love.
Melody embraced life wholeheartedly. She found peace tending her beautiful flower gardens, enjoyed spontaneous trips to the casino, and loved traveling whenever the opportunity arose. Music filled her heart, whether it was an old favorite or a new tune, and she could always appreciate the magic of a good book or a classic Disney movie. There was never a dull moment when Melody was around, as she had a gift for bringing joy and adventure into everyday life.
Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Melody loved the Lord with all her heart and faithfully attended Freedom Church in Augusta. She participated in local Bible studies, volunteered whenever she was able, and lived out her faith through kindness, compassion, and service to others. She was patient, thoughtful, caring, and deeply spiritual. Whether offering a listening ear, preparing a meal, lending a helping hand, or praying for someone in need, Melody's love for others was evident in every aspect of her life. Her greatest wish was for those she loved to know peace, happiness, and the comfort of God's love.
Melody is survived by her mother, Patricia Ann Wehry; her sister, Alicia (Dennis) Hunsberger; her brother, Buddy (Silvia) Naillieux; her children, Candace Leigh Heckart, Kevin Lee Heckart, Cameron Quinn Heckart, and Derek Alan Hamlin; her beloved grandchildren, Cayden Heckart, Harlee Fort, and Karsyn Fort; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gregg Hamlin; her father, Maurice Lee Naillieux; and her grandmother, Reta Naillieux.
Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we celebrate a life lived with remarkable strength, enduring faith, and unconditional love. Melody's legacy is not measured by the years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and to God. Her love will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew her, just as beautifully as the flowers she so lovingly tended.
A Celebration of Life Service for Melody will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2026, with visitation an hour prior, at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th Street N., Wichita, Kansas 67206.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Victory in the Valley, in honor of Melody's courageous fight and her desire to bring hope to others facing their own battles.
