He is also survived by 4 brothers and 1 sister along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, lifelong friends Keith and Karen Steffen, Cushing, Minnesota and Edward and Dawn Chamberlin, of Goshen, Indiana. The family would like to thank the staff at the Robert J Dole VA Medical Center, Medicalodge of Wichita and Kindful Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
Michael was born June 16th, 1943 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. At age 12, the family moved off of the island to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Michael graduated from Minneapolis Vocational High School in 1961 and enlisted in the United States Army. He served 2 tours in Vietnam and then a few years later re-enlisted into the United States Air Force with a passion for jet engine mechanics. He later enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard and trained up and coming jet engine mechanics who worked on B1 bombers and other fighter jets. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, wrenching on everything, music, dancing and he was a devout Christian. After retiring from driving school bus from Laidlaw Transportation, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He spent a lot of his time on the lake catching the big ones and the not-so-big ones. You could always be sure he had a fishing pole and a can of mountain dew ready to go. His charming smile, infectious sense of humor, and his hilarious fishing stories will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later time with a private internment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minnesota.
