Michael was a hardworking, dedicated man who spent his life providing for his family and serving others. He proudly served as a firefighter for 20 years before beginning a 28-year career as an insurance agent. His strong work ethic, determination, and dedication were qualities that defined him throughout his life.
On March 12, 1966, Michael married Shirley Ann Hinkle. When he married Shirley, he welcomed her four boys into his life, embracing the role of father and raising them as his own. Together, they later welcomed their daughter, Deonna, completing their family. Michael and Shirley built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Through the years, they shared the joys and challenges of life, creating a lasting legacy through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Michael knew he was a man of strong opinions who was never afraid to speak his mind. He was outgoing, proud, and just a little stubborn, but those qualities were all part of what made him who he was. He loved to laugh, enjoyed a good conversation, and never met a stranger. Michael especially loved telling stories, often sharing memories and experiences with anyone willing to listen. His stories, laughter, and unmistakable personality will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In his retirement years, Michael enjoyed playing golf, cheering on his beloved Kansas City Chiefs, and watching his favorite crime shows. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great pride in watching them grow. Whether he was hollering from the sidelines at their sporting events, making sure everyone heard his opinion of the game, or simply spending time together, those moments meant the world to him.
Above all, Michael was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who leaves behind a lifetime of memories. His family will forever remember his strong personality, his sense of humor, his unmistakable opinions, and the love he had for each of them.
Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Hyde; his son, William Irion; and his son, Brit Hyde.
Michael leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his sons, Darryl Irion (Mary) of Wichita, Kansas, and Bryan Hyde (Lisa) of Wichita, Kansas; his daughter, Deonna Hunt (Kenny) of Pittsburg, Kansas; and his daughter-in-law, Patty Irion of Bellevue, Washington, wife of his late son, William. He was also a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him tremendous joy and held a special place in his heart.
While his family will deeply miss his voice, his stories, his stubborn ways, and his presence in their lives, they find comfort in knowing that Michael and Shirley are together once again.
