Myrtle Udee Acosta

In her early years, Dee attended a one room schoolhouse and completed an 8th grade education. She later went and worked for the Wichita Eagle until she became a stay-at-home Mom. After completing tax school, she started doing taxes for H&R Block. After doing taxes for a few years, she went into business for herself in the early 80's known as "Dee's Tax Service". After owning and running a successful tax business for over 20 years, and a list of over 900 clients, she then retired in 2004.

As a woman of faith, Dee was baptized into the Catholic Church in the Spring of 1999 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Derby, Kansas.

As an avid sports fan, she loved watching baseball, whether it was college or pro, and it didn't matter what team was playing. Dee was a detailed, oriented person; as she was a outstanding cook, great seamstress, and gardener. One of her favorite hobbies were to go and bowl; along with being in a bowling league for many years until a knee injury made her unable to continue.

Dee enjoyed to travel, whether it was a drive in the country, or on a cruise with friends or family. Her biggest joy was to be spending time with her family; attending reunions in Oklahoma or hosting a neighborhood block party at her home. Her friends also played a vital role in her life; and she would attend a luncheon with her grade school friends every month.

Our Mom was a rock for her children and she'd tell us what we needed to hear vs. what we may have wanted to hear. She will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, Thomas and Mary Smith; her daughter, Patricia Morris Stahlman; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Morris; her grandson, Timothy Morris; along with all her siblings, James Youngblood, Elbert Youngblood, Elsie Youngblood Kostecki, Elwood Youngblood, Dennis Smith, Minnie Elizabeth Smith Crabtree, and Ruby Geree Smith Edmonds.

She is survived by: her children, Tary Morris, Larry Morris, Karon Sue Morris Turner, and Christina (Lance) Acosta-Lane; her son-in-law, Ronald; along with 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 9:30 AM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025; Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM, both at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2300 East Meadowlark Road, Derby, Kansas 67037. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Acacia Lawn, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial in Dee's name, may be contributed to: St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2300 East Meadowlark Road, Derby, Kansas 67037.
