Nellie Jane (Bowles) Peters, 100, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026. She was born March 22, 1926, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Joel W. and Nellie Jane (Simison) Bowles.
Nellie attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita North High School with the class of 1944. After high-school, She married her high school sweetheart, Pete Peters, on September 13, 1946.
Through her career, she devoted 30 years working for KG&E, as the executive assistant to the CEO.
During her free time, she enjoyed needlepointing, reading, puzzles, and was a devoted member of Friends University Church where she was baptized and sang in the church choir. Traveling with her husband Pete in the 5th wheel during their early retirement was one of her biggest joys. Family was her world as she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and going on family vacations.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Joel and Nellie Bowles; her husband, Pete Peters; her siblings, J.W., Mary Esther, Jack, Bill, David and Jimmy Bowles; her daughter, Valerie Guilliams; and her son-in-law, Don Guilliams.
She is survived by: her granddaughters, Lisa (Will) Siggs, Sandy (Richard) Lutton, Caroline (Scott) Jones and Cassandra Guilliams; her great-grandchildren, Michael Guilliams, Coleman Penwell, Jeremy Penwell, Ben Jones, Matthew Jones, Brian (Holly) Lutton, Kevin Lutton and Becky (Daniel) Ulbrich; her great-great grandchildren, Avery Lutton, Daelynn Ulbrich and Dustin Ulbrich.
Visitation & Viewing will be held from 6:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2026; Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, both at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Garden of Gospels, Wichita.
