Norma Carmen Troell, age 95, passed away on January 31, 2022. Norma was born in Inman, Kansas in 1926 to parents Albert and Lucy Carpenter. Norma grew up in the country as the youngest of five, graduated high school at sixteen, and moved to Wichita where she worked downtown selling dresses during the war era. She met a handsome airman who would become the love of her life and change her from the fancy girl about town to the woman who loved her home, children, garden, and kitchen, though she never lost her fancy side, as evidenced by her penchant for shoes. She was a baker beyond compare, with her grandchildren being the recipients of the thousands and thousands of love-filled cookies she would make for them when they visited. Norma’s love of God was evidenced through her volunteering at the church in the secretary’s office and teaching 2- and 3-year-olds together with Richard at their church for over thirty years.
Norma was preceded in death by Richard, her beloved husband of 74 years.
She is survived by her son, Richard S. (Susan) Troell; daughter, Tamara (John) Welter; grandchildren, Stephen (Jocelyn) Troell, Elisabeth Williams, Christina Troell, Sarah (Micah) Sellew, Jo (Nathan) Winn, Brian (Tori) Welter, and Olivia Welter; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Katelyn, Alexandria, Stephen, Jack, Emma, Luke, Aliyah, Eden, Ezekiel, Owen, Avery, Natalie, Gavin, and Audrey. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Antioch Christian Church, 3741 W. 15th St. N., Wichita, KS 67203.
Memorials may be given to Antioch Christian Church.
