Norman was born October 3, 1931 in Arma, Kansas to Jim and Elsie Ritter, both of whom preceded him in death in addition to his loving wife of over 50 years Juanita Ritter; siblings: Bonnie Burns and Ruth Kraft; and stepson: Jim Tillery.
Norman was a US Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Black Warrior River (LSMR 404) during the Korean War. Upon honorably completing his Navy service he began a career as a tool and die maker, ultimately retiring from both Boeing Aircraft and Coleman. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, and a supporter, coach, and mentor to many young men through the Greater Wichita Jr. Pioneers football club for several years after his retirement – a great source of joy for him and Juanita. He was also an avid fisherman - a great source of joy for his grandchildren whom he often brought with him to the banks of the Arkansas River as they were growing up (but not so much for Juanita who then had to cook everything they brought home). Playing cards, dancing, and senior center visits were among his favorite activities later in life, when not enjoying a nice nap in his favorite chair in the house he and Juanita built together for many, many years that, true to his word as always, he would never leave until called to join her.
Left to mourn his passing are his siblings: Rhonda Vance, Charles Ritter (Glenda), Pamela Osgood, and Betty Skidmore; step-son: Donnie Tillery; grandchildren: Christopher (Amy) Tillery, Nicholas (Briana Duke) Tillery, Jamie Tillery, and Donnie Tillery; great-grandchildren: Jack, James and Lyla Tillery; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends down at the senior center. To all of whom Norman will be greatly missed and forever remembered as a supportive figure, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or care for family and friends in times of need during his lifetime and theirs.
Visitation will be held 1-3pm, Friday, February 18th, 2022 at Resthaven Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Linwood Senior Center, 1901 S. Kansas, Wichita, KS 67211 or a Tree Planting Tribute online.
