Phillip R. Smith, age 82, passed away on Monday Feb. 3, 2020 in Wichita, KS. He was born August 21, 1937 in Shawnee, OK to Violet and O.C. Smith. He grew up in Tecumseh, OK and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1955.
On Aug 31, 1957 he married Patricia L. Loftis and they moved to Wichita. Phillip worked for Boeing most of his life, but during lay-offs he also worked for Beech and Cessna Aircraft and at times had to work 2 jobs to help support his growing family. He retired from Boeing in 1994 at the age of 57. After retiring he worked part time as a courier, to keep himself busy.
After retirement, Phillip and Patricia traveled and made many trips to Hawaii, a trip to Europe (days after 9/11) and took several cruises (including to the Caribbean and Alaska) along with several bus tours throughout the United States.
Phillip loved country music (Willie Nelson and Hank Williams Jr.) and watching old westerns on TV. During the summers he loved to go fishing with some of his granddaughters.
Phillip was proceeded in death by his wife Patricia L. Smith of 55 years, his parents, Violet and O.C Smith, and son Terry Wayne Smith. He is survived by his daughter Tammy Self (Weldon) of Midlothian, TX and son Forrest Smith (Donna) of Wichita, 7 grandchildren Stephanie Stephens (Chris) of Hillsboro, Tx., Joshua Dennis of Dallas, TX., Ashley Smith (Jeff Reed), Katelyn Schoenhofer (Kyle), Olivia Smith (Trey) , Bailey Smith and Sarah Smith all of Wichita and 7 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held at East Point Church of Christ, 747 N. 127th St. E., Wichita, KS on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
