Whitaker, Phillip Ray, 80, beloved husband and father passed away April 9, 2014. Phillip was the youngest of four children born to Thomas C. Whitaker and Edith Hensley. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edith of Wichita; children: son Ronald Lynn Whitaker, wife Mary Kay Whitaker, grandson Nicholas; daughter Maria Lynn Barney, husband Ted Barney, grandchildren Ethan, Evan and Heather. Phillip served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Fletcher. Upon his return to Kansas after his years of service, Phillip worked for the US Postal Service for 31 years. He developed into a great leader as supervisor of the Letter Sorting Machine Department. Phillip liked to spend his spare time with his family traveling, building, gardening, watercolor painting, and hunting. Viewing is Sunday 1 to 8 pm with family receiving friends 6 to 7 p.m. and funeral service is 1:00 pm Monday, April 14 at Resthaven Mortuary.
