Ralph Wayne Bonnesen, known as “Wayne” by family and friends passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021 at the age of 73. He will be best remembered for his sincere love of family, love of travel particularly to the Colorado Rockies, his admiration of the great outdoors and wildlife as well as his quirky sense of humor.
He was born in Hutchinson Kansas on July 19, 1948 as one of five children born to George and Vernie Bonnesen. Wayne spent the majority of his childhood in Wichita where he worked hard to keep up with his two older brothers. In 1966, Wayne graduated from Wichita South High.
In 1967, Wayne married the love of his life, Evelyn. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary before his passing. In time, their little family grew to include three children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
At the age of 19, Wayne went to work for the City of Wichita in the Water Department where he worked as a loyal employee for 46 years as a meter mechanic until his retirement in 2016.
Wayne and Evelyn were baptized in 1972 as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Even in his illness he was devoted to attending the Christian Meetings via Zoom regardless of the facility he was in. Wayne held tight to promise given to us from Jehovah in Acts 24:15 “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.”
In lieu of an in person service, Virtual Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Saturday, January 8th, 2022 on Zoom. Contact the family for the Zoom ID.
