Ralph "Tommy" Edward Farmer

Ralph is known to many as Tommy, a nickname he earned from his grandfather Farmer. While growing up in Olathe with his younger brothers, when the game became “soldiers” or “cowboys,” Tommy naturally assumed the role of a captain or sheriff. Those who knew Tommy best knew he could be hard but was loving. He loved horses and had several dogs and cats.

Early in life his ambition was to serve in the military; he tried twice to qualify for the Armed Forces but he was unable to do so due to falling arches. Tommy then became a good and valued worker, both in factories and in retail work.

In his personal life, Tommy enjoyed doing leather work, collecting military items, playing the drum set, and watching old TV shows.

He is remembered with gratitude and respect, and with the kind of affection reserved for someone who, over many years, remained a beloved brother, friend, and mentor.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents BH Farmer and Mary Jane (White) Farmer, and Phillip Herrod and Neeley Grace Herrod; parents, Ralph T. Farmer and Dorothy L. (Herod) Farmer; his siblings: Benjamin, Dottie C., Jerreld H. and his niece, Annette Schmidt.

Tommy is survived by his brothers: Charlie A. Farmer of Whitewater, KS, Johnnie L. Farmer of Wichita, KS and Robert D. Farmer of Wichita, KS; 6 nieces; 7 nephews and many grand nieces and grand nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W Hwy 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209, on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 1 pm.
