Regina Catherine Walters, 86, of Wichita, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by family and Hospice staff on Wednesday July 7, 2021 in Viola, KS. Regina was born the daughter of George and Barbara Eakes on February 7, 1935 in Plains, Kansas. Regina and Richard Walters were united in marriage on November 20, 1954 in Plains, Kansas. Together they celebrated 38 years of marriage before his passing in 1992. She was a very devout Catholic who had a special devotion to our Blessed Mother and The Divine Mercy. Those who knew her were assured of her many hours of daily prayers for their intentions. She worked as a secretary for the Air National Guard and after marrying, she became a homemaker to her three children. Regina was an avid seamstress who shared her gifts as a volunteer for Sewing 101 at Ascension Via Christi for over 20 years. She also volunteered at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church as a Boy Scout Leader and Altar Society member. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son; David Walters, siblings; Jerome Eakes, Sylvester Eakes, Cecilia Chinn, Josephine Blacksten. Survivors include her loving children; Stephen (Nancy) Walters, Barbara (Carey) Leonard, siblings; Sister Geraldine Eakes, Mary Friesen, Frances McCreedy, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many extended family.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am on Wednesday July 14, 2021 both at Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, 18218 US-54, Goddard, KS 67052. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Interim HealthCare of Wellington, Kansas, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Wichita.
