Renae Suzanne Schuler, 61, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Wichita, KS, surrounded by those who loved her. Born on June 6, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan, Renae was the beloved daughter of Yassin Shourbaji and Judith Anne Shourbaji.
Driven by compassion and an unwavering commitment to serve, Renae pursued her education with excellence—graduating from Wichita Northwest High School, Wichita State University, and The University of Kansas School of Medicine.
Renae dedicated over 20 years of her life as an emergency room physician, helping patients at Winfield and Salina Hospitals. She was respected for her sharp clinical mind and treasured for the care and calm she brought to those in need.
She married Peter Schuler, and together they welcomed two daughters—Hannah, born in May 1995, and Katherine, born in August 1999—who became the center of Renae's world. Her love for them was deep and enduring. Peter and Renae divorced in the early 2020's.
Faith was an important part of Renae’s life. She was a member of several church communities, including Northridge Friends Church, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and West Evangelical Free Church. Each nurtured her spirit and grounded her through life’s journey.
She was charitable with both her time and her many gifts, always stepping in to help someone in need. Renae also found joy in the quiet creativity of crocheting, drawing, painting pottery, and reading—each hobby a reflection of her thoughtful and artistic soul.
Renae’s kindness ran deep—she was always willing to listen, to care, and to help. Whether it was taking the time to comfort someone going through a hard day or offering a gentle hand with homework when it became too much, she gave selflessly. She believed that her gift for healing was meant to serve others, and that belief guided her not only in her career, but in how she lived every day.
What brought her the greatest joy was being with her children. She would light up when she came home from work and saw their faces, filling the room with a happiness that only a mother’s love can bring.
Renae is preceded in death by her parents, Yassin and Judith Shourbaji. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Hannah Schuler and Katherine Schuler; her brother, Larry (Tonda) Nelson; her niece and nephew; and her loyal dog, Maddie, who never left her side.
Services for Renae will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at West Evangelical Free Church, 1161 N. Maize Road, Wichita, KS, 67212. A burial service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W. Hwy. 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
