I think I met Richard when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was at court with my brother, and he was my brother's attorney. My brother kept Richard on retainer for years, because the dummy (my brother) was always getting tickets. He and my dad considered Richard not just to be my brother's attorney, but also a very dear friend.  I always enjoyed going to the office with my brother, and also talking on the phone when Richard would call with case & court info, or for flooring installation needs. I believe my brother said Richard and he traded skills for payment several times. He'd do the court stuff, my brother would take care of flooring needs. He was kind enough to refer lots of flooring work to my brother over the years. When my brother became addicted to drugs, Richard called one day to check on him. He was angry, disappointed, frustrated, and hurt at my brother's poor choices. He and I shared some tears about that during that call.  I am sure he'd be proud, and relieved to know that my brother fought long, and hard, and regained more than 5 years sobriety before my brother passed in 2017.  He didn't die in his addictions.  I only just found out about Richard passing away, right now, and I had a good cry about it. He was a kind, funny, generous, optimistic, gentle, caring, loving man. It was an honor to have known him, to have been in his presence, and to call him our friend, and our advocate. He has already been sorely missed for some years, but right now this makes it different. It feels like the lights were shut off.  All of his loved ones, please accept my deepest, and most sincere condolences, and sympathies. He was, in my opinion, and my family's opinion, thee very best attorney Wichita, Kansas has ever had. 
Rest in eternal paradise, Richard. No one I can think of deserves paradise more. 

Richard has been a long time friend since the early 1980's and has been an attorney in several instances for overturning traffic tickets for both myself, my son, and my family as recently as September and October of 2019. I was at his home/office recently and visited with him about show cars, our common interest Donald Trump, and shared pictures and memories... Richard was always a true friend and a great attorney. He will be missed... I cherish one of his light up ink pens in my office to this day... It will always be a treasure, and he will always be with me in memory.   I surely will miss him and so sorry for yours and our loss..

I knew Richard for many years, having first met at the courthouse when we had a case together. I knew him to be an eternal optimist and always passionate about the concerns of his clients. He was a good man and he will be missed.

I am so very sorry to hear of Richard’s a passing. What a fine attorney and such a nice person. We would see each other in the courthouse and he always had a smile on his face and a nice thought for the day. My sincere condolences to his family for sharing his life with all of us. I met Richard through a car club and we became freinds and he became practically a family member  I considered him to be an older brother we had a lot of fun together going to a few car shows and we took my grandson Braysen on a train ride on a genuine steam powered train little  brayden warmed up to Richard real fast. All i can say Richard is rest in peace i will miss you and your friendship.                        Love Conrad

Richard is preceded in death by his father, James Darwin Dickson and his mother, Fanchion P. Pitman. Survivors include his daughter, Amanda Lea Dickson; son, Brian James Dickson; daughter-in-law, Lessie Vermillion- Dickson; brothers, John Dee Dickson and James Darwin Dickson; and grandchildren, Diego André Dickson, Jin Kai Dickson, and Lily Ann Dickson.
