Richard Meyers

January 18, 1940August 23, 2019

RICHARD DENNIS MEYERS, 79 years old, passed away suddenly in his sleep Friday, August 23 2019. Rich, a man of many words, some factual and others – well, to say exaggerated may be an understatement. Rich filled every room and never new a stranger. He had a unique way of putting people at ease with his great big smile, laughter and self-deprecating humor. When you were with Rich you knew you were with a man who felt things deeply, wasn’t afraid to cry, laugh, apologize, let you go first, and give you applause. He loved his friends, his family, and his country. Richard Meyers was born in Oxford, Nebraska January 18, 1940. His beloved parents, whom he cared for well, Floyd and Edith Meyers, proceeded him in death. His brother and faithful friend Dean Meyers (married to Holly Meyers), along with his amazing family is still impacting God’s Kingdom and resides in Kansas City, Ks. Richard enjoyed 39 years of marriage to Thelma Henriques who, when not traveling, lives in Wichita. Richard was also preceded in death by his fiancé Judy Ermey from Derby, KS, whom he loved very much. Richard was the proud father of two wonderful children – his daughter, Laura Meyers lives in Wichita, Ks and his son Stephen Meyers (married to Stacey Meyers) lives in Santa Clarita, CA. Blessed to have such great kids, Richard was even more blessed by his grandchildren, Amy Brown and Jake, Avrie and Cade Meyers.

RICHARD was grateful to be raised in a Christian home. As a young man he accepted Christ and was baptized at Broadway Christian Church. Richard loved Jesus and raised his kids to love Jesus as well. A proud American, Richard was a Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He enlisted in 1961 and served his country as a Sonar-man in an anti-submarine helicopter unit of the U.S. Navy. He loved to share stories of his time with fellow shipmates onboard the USS Yorktown. Upon completion of his service in 1966, Richard began his life as a family man working 25 years of his career with Xerox Corporation. Always active in his local church, Richard enjoyed cooking biscuits and gravy for the men’s prayer breakfast alongside his Dad, and sharing Sunday School duties with his friends. He loved tinkering with electronics, computers, woodworking and his many aquarium tanks. He was loved by his family and friends…along with most random strangers he bumped into along the way. He will be missed.

A service will be held at Lakeview Funeral Home at 10:00am on Thursday, August 29th with internment immediately following.

I met Rich a year ago in our Christian Companions Sunday School Class at South Rock Christian Church. He was such a blessing with his humor and love for the Lord. I am thankful we had a good talk a little over a week ago. He told me how much he loved the Lord for all his life. I will be praying for all of you. No words can express how we feel right now. Just lean on Jesus, share memories and look forward to a wonderful reunion. With love.
