

Bob attended public schooling in Fredonia, Kansas. In high school he played football and was a tight end for the Yellow Jackets. After graduating high school in 1944, he joined the Merchant Marines. He attended Independence Community College, then in 1949 he attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. It was there that he met the love of his life Claire "Terry" Carpenter. They married in 1950. Soon after marriage, Bob got drafted to the United States Army where he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky and worked as an instructor for the Tank Division.
After his honorable discharge from active duty in 1954, he enlisted in the Army Reserves where he served as a JAG Officer until his retirement at age 62. In 1957, he started work at Beech Aircraft, where he worked on military legal contracts until his retirement in1992.
Bob enjoyed traveling and golfing with his wife.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Bill and Don Chesnut.
Survived by his son, Charles (Rena) Chesnut; two daughters, Linda Chesnut (Joe) Digranes and Suzane (John) Metzler; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Bob will be on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM, with a Memorial service immediately following at 3:00 PM at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Highway 54 Wichita, Kansas 67209. A graveside will follow the service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
