

Hoida, Robert F. (M/Sgt – retired Army) 86, of Wichita, KS, formerly of Killeen, TX passed away peacefully July 16, 2015. Robert “Bob” was born April 19, 1929 in South Bend, IN to Fred and Rose Hoida. He joined the army, right out of high school at the young age of 17. He retired after serving his country for 25 years. While in the army he was stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life Gertrud (Leyser). Retiring in Killeen, TX (Fort Hood) where they made their home for 42 years before moving to Wichita in 2012. He was a loving and caring husband, father, son, brother, grandpa and friend. An avid stamp collector, he was always receiving stamps from people he met on his tours of duty. He was also a big Notre Dame fan being from South Bend. He will be dearly missed by his family and remembered by all that had the opportunity to meet him, that wonderful sense of humor, great smile and beautiful blue eyes. He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrud, his parents Fred and Rose and brother Gene. He is survived by his 4 children, Monika (Dusty) Stum, Spokane WA, Linda Hall, Wichita, Sandy (Rayce) Knutson, Wichita, Clifford (Kristi) Hoida, Waco, TX, sisters, Betty Hoida, Helen (Kenneth) Milner and Frances Lemanski all of South Bend, IN, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and the many, many friends he made through his military life. Visitation is 7 to 8 pm Monday and funeral service is 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 21 both at Resthaven Mortuary. A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Association Central and Western Kansas, 1820 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67214 and Wounded Warriors, 4899 Belfort Rd., Ste. 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
