Bob entered the United States Air Force in 1956 and was honorably discharged four years later. Following his military service, he began a long career at Star Lumber & Supply, holding several positions and retiring after a dedicated 35-year career.
On October 12, 1963, Bob married Helen A. Eck at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in St. Marks, KS. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and community. Their union was blessed with five children.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished his 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, taking pride in their accomplishments and finding joy in every visit, phone call, and milestone. He enjoyed being the family chauffeur — always quick to offer Helen and her sisters rides to visit family. His quiet strength, steady presence, and ornery humor made him a beloved anchor of the family.
Among his greatest joys were the mountains of Colorado, where Bob skied until the age of 82 — a feat that impressed everyone and surprised no one who knew him. He was also a lifelong car enthusiast, he often talked about old cars he owned with a knack for researching, planning, and dreaming about his next vehicle long before he ever set foot in a dealership — a hobby that kept him happily occupied and always one step ahead. And he never turned down a good scoop of ice cream, preferably homemade or from Braum’s.
Bob lived his Catholic faith through decades of involvement at Christ the King Parish in Wichita, KS, supporting parish life alongside Helen and raising their children in a home rooted in faith, service, and love.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertha (Heimerman) Orth; his beloved wife, Helen; his grandson, Brent Orth; his sisters Geraldine, Dorothy, Jeanette, Charlene, Alene, and Barbara; and his brothers Ralph, Raymond, James, and Alfred.
He is survived by his five children: Duane (Marla) Orth of Leawood, KS; Dale (Jen) Orth of Arlington, VA; Deanna (Steve) Cox of Wichita, KS; Danelle (Shawn) Urban of Wichita, KS; and Darla (Paul) Reinisch of Eureka, MO; and his brother, Larry Orth of St. Joseph, MO.
Bob’s legacy is one of faith, humility, and devotion to his family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love for Helen, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
The rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m., and the family will receive friends immediately following. The Funeral Mass and Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. Both are at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4411 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209 with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial Masses in Bob's memory may be made to Christ The King Catholic Church, 4411 W. Maple St., Wichita, KS 67209.
