

Roy L. Ekstein Sr., age 84, entered eternal rest on November 18, 2025. Born on June 2, 1941, to parents Ernest and Mary (Parker) Ekstein in Pauline, Nebraska. Roy graduated from Hastings High School in 1958. He found and married the love of his life, Elmyra Lambrecht, on June 10, 1962, in Hastings, Nebraska, and celebrated a loving 46 years of marriage before her passing in 2008 from lung cancer.
When Roy was younger, he helped his father, who was a caretaker at Blue Valley Cemetery in Pauline, Nebraska. He assisted with hand-digging graves, mowing the grass, trimming trees, and other necessary maintenance. Roy held many jobs across Nebraska, Kansas, and California but ultimately settled in Wichita, Kansas, working as a machinist on aircraft tools and dies from 1972 to 1996. He worked at Cessna, Learjet, and Bombardier. Before retiring in January 2008, he worked for PAM and Floyd Wild Trucking as a truck driver.
When not working, Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and others. He volunteered as a Meals on Wheels driver, participated in Red Cross FLASH, and was part of CB Group REACT. He loved talking with others. Roy was also a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, and siblings Alfred, Ronnie, Daniel, and Mary Rose Ekstein. He is survived by his children, Teresa (David) Owen, Ramona Schippers, Roy Jr. (Perla) Ekstein, Sheila (Jeff) Crabtree, and grandchildren Angelica, Caterina Owen, Jesse, Erik Schipper, Roy III, Raymart, Reuben, and Samantha Ekstein.
A come-and-go visitation will be held from 4 PM to 6 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, located at 201 S. Hydraulic, Wichita, KS 67211. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10 AM, at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 1241 N. Ridge Rd., Wichita, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church.
