Sara was born in Wichita, Kansas, to Ralph Taft Howard and Mary Louise Pennington Howard. She lived in Mt. Hope, Kansas, until she went to college at Kansas State College (later called Kansas State University) where she earned a BS in Home Economics and Education in 1956. She taught Home Economics at Haven High School for 2 years, and then at Hadley Intermediate School in Wichita for 5 years.
Sara was very active in activities and clubs, winning many ribbons at both the county and state fair. On October 14, 1962, Sara married Donald Paul Hutchison, who predeceased her after almost 59 years of marriage. Sara was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wichita, teaching all ages and being involved in both local and national activities of the church. She loved to travel, enjoyed learning about Biblical archeology and was an accomplished seamstress.
Sara is survived by her son, Douglas (Stephanie); brother, Jerry Howard (Jan); sister-in-law, Shirley Hutchison; nieces and nephews, LuAnn (Karlan) Yager, Brian (Cynthia) Howard, Alan (Joyce) Howard, Debra, Vickie, Keith, as well as several additional nieces, nephews and cousins; and two grand-dogs that she thoroughly enjoyed spoiling.
Funeral service for Sara will be held, 10:00 AM, Monday, December 18, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church of Wichita, 525 North Broadway Street, Wichita, Kansas 67214. After the service, burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in the Garden of Apostles Ext., 12100 East 13th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
