

Sharla Kay Schlotthauer was born on June 15, 1961, to Relton and Kay Tate in Wichita, Kansas. Sharla lived a life rooted in love, laughter, and deep devotion to her family. She was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and "Nana" whose presence brought light, comfort, and steadiness to the people around her.
Sharla shared a beautiful marriage with her husband, Joel. This October would have marked 33 years together -- a testament to their enduring love, partnership. and commitment. Together, they built a life centered on family, which remained Sharla's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
She was the loving mother of Allie Meador (Jake), Amanda Grimes (Tyler), Abby Schlotthauer, and Will Schlotthauer, and the adoring grandmother of Gannon and Graham, who brought her endless happiness and countless reasons to smile.
Sharla loved her people fiercely. She was the kind of mom who always showed up, stayed close, and made everyone feel cared for and known. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for striking up conversations wherever she went, leaving others feeling seen, welcomed, and valued.
She possessed a fun-loving and adventurous spirit. Sharla loved to travel, especially taking cruises, and never missed an opportunity to stop at Buc-ee's, where she delighted in collecting fun apparel, snacks, and treasures. Her playlists were filled with favorite hits from the 1980s, including songs by Rick Springfield and Pat Benatar, music that perfectly reflected her vibrant and joyful energy. Sharla was a wonderful cook who showed her love through the meals she prepared. Gathering family around the table and creating lasting memories brought her great joy.
Sharla was preceded in death by: her father, Relton Tate, and her brother, David Tate.
She is survived by: her husband, Joel Schlotthauer; her mother, Kay Tate; her children, Allie Meador (Jake), Amanda Grimes (Tyler), Abby Schlotthauer, and Will Schlotthauer; her beloved grandchildren, Gannon and Graham; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Sharla will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her generous heart, and the way she made family the center of everything. Her love leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to be felt in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
A private family service will be held.
